Question (Rajesh K. Dubey): How can mental stress be healed through spirituality?

Stress and depression have become like a pandemic. How to deal with them, and what is their permanent solution — the answer lies in this discussion.
1. The Various Causes of Mental Stress
Mental stress can arise from many different causes.
If the cause is financial hardship, then improvement in one’s economic condition tends to reduce the stress.
If it stems from health issues, better health can relieve it.
If the tension arises from discord in marital relationships, it subsides when those relationships improve.
If legal troubles are the source, the stress disappears once the case is resolved.
2. Stress: A Common Yet Deep Word
‘Stress’ is a generic term—a simple word that carries deep weight.
Mental stress may result from a wide range of causes, often countless in number.
3. Can Spirituality Solve All Forms of Stress?
Spirituality can reduce or even eliminate stress.
However, the word ‘spirituality’ itself is also a generic term—open to multiple interpretations.
Some forms of so-called spirituality can even increase stress.
So, to be precise, we must say:
If one follows the path of spirituality as taught by the Bhagavad Gita,
then all stress can be overcome.
4. Gita-Based Spirituality: A Specific Path to Relief
This naturally raises the question: What exactly is the spirituality taught by the Bhagavad Gita?
5. Why Are Some People Stress-Free Even Without Reading the Gita?
But before answering that, let me point out something else:
You may find a few people who have never read the Gita but still remain largely free from stress—regardless of circumstances.
6. Perspective: The Real Cause
In truth, stress is not solely the result of external conditions.
It is deeply connected to our worldview—our inner perspective on life.
The way we interpret and respond to events plays a decisive role.
7. Developed Nations, Greater Depression
Today, depression—a severe form of stress—has spread like a pandemic.
And the more “developed” a country is, the higher the incidence of depression appears to be.
8. Our Ancestors: Content Even Amid Scarcity
Our ancestors lived in material scarcity, often in poverty—yet they were content.
In India, many of them held a simple view of life:
“Never give up courage, never forget God’s name; whatever way He keeps us, accept that way.”
Even if they didn’t consciously recall these words, their attitude reflected this belief.
9. Consumerism: A Modern Source of Stress
Today, even a brief power outage can cause stress.
In those days, electricity didn’t exist—and yet, people weren’t as anxious.
Modern stress largely comes from a consumerist way of thinking.
10. Vision as the Real Solution
Even without reading the Gita, if one’s worldview is of a certain kind, they may remain free from stress.
But the worldview offered by the Gita is even more powerful and effective than any unnamed philosophy.
11. Gita’s Vision: The End of Stress
To gain that worldview, one must read the Gita—deeply and thoughtfully.
To summarise:
If you adopt the worldview of Karma Yoga, or of Surrender (Sharanagati) Yoga, or of Jnana Yoga,
you will live free of stress.
If you integrate all these perspectives, there is nothing more to be said.
12. Learning the Gita’s Vision
Now you may ask me to explain this worldview of the Gita in full detail.
But such an explanation cannot be given in a single post, nor in a forum this small.
Stay with the group. Keep reading the posts. Keep watching the videos.
13. Introspection: Have You Tried?
I organised two webinars on Karma Yoga—just to help you live without stress.
Did you make the effort to attend even once?
Ask yourself.
