Among trees, I am the Ashvattha tree; among divine sages, Nārada; among the Gandharvas, Chitraratha; and among the liberated souls, I am Kapila Muni. (10:26)
English
"Ashvattha" refers to the Peepal tree, which holds sacred significance for both Hindus and Buddhists, who consider it the "Bodhi Vriksha." It is closely associated with knowledge and wellness in both traditions. Nārada is a "mānasputra" (mind-born son) of Brahmā and a devoted follower of Bhagawān Vishnu. A "gandharva" is a celestial being in Indian religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. The males among them are divine performers, such as musicians and singers, while the females are divine dancers. In Hinduism, they are considered celestial beings who serve as the musicians for the gods (devas). Kapila Muni is a sage in Hindu tradition. According to Bhāgavata Purāna, he is the son of the sage Kardama and Devahuti, the daughter of the Svāyambhuva Manu. Kapila is most well-known as the founder of the Sāmkhya school of Hindu philosophy. Kapila of Sāmkhya fame is considered a Vedic sage. He is considered one of the Avatāras of Bhagawān Vishnu.
